Time Out With Your Family

The demands and pressures of modern life have taken a toll on our family lives. Surveys reveal that families spend just half an hour of quality time together, over the entire week and even when families do get together the time is spent in silence in front of the TV because they are busy with their mobiles, playing computer games or chatting with friends or our simply too tired to talk.
In this demanding day and age, time is not a luxury that enables us to make time for our children and parents and other loved ones. But if we don’t find that time, then we are depriving them and ourselves of imbibing valuable life skills that have for eternities been handed down from generation to generation. Life lessons like kindness and fairness, healthy eating, spirituality, motivation, sharing, bonding and caring. Lessons learnt within the family are lessons no Professional Life Coach, no School will ever be able to impart to you. These are life lessons not just for your mind and body but for your SOUL!
When we were young the amount of time we spent with our family and friends was comparatively much, much more than what we spend today. We ate healthier food, there was less depression, and there was more happiness, calmness and serenity in our lives. In sharp contrast to the frenzied, frantic and chaotic lives that we lead today.
Why is it so important to spend time with loved ones? It helps build self-esteem, children who spend quality time with their loved ones have self-confidence and find it easy to build relationships.
There are many ways in which you can spend quality time with your family. It’s not how much time you spend together that matters, but the ‘quality’ time that you share that matters. Spend the time in group activities, switch over from Netflix shows or video games to games that we used to play together that have an integral part of our culture and growing up. This will help develop strong relationships and teach us how to handle stressful situations with ease.
Loved ones are what make life worth living. They should be your number one priority. Foster and cultivate them like you would a garden. Nourish it every day, even it means that you have to take a huge chunk out your professional lives…believe me, it’s going to be worth it.
