Reinvent Yourself

Listen to this audio blog:
It's never too late to start
No pathway is unknown
Search for a trusted friend
And you'll never walk alone
Let there be a beginning
If you yearn better tomorrows
Just no point in wallowing
In self created sorrows
Guard against the winter,
Whatever chills it may bring
You'll have to venture out
To smell the breath of spring
You may be fifty, sixty
Never too late to start anew
Oust the clutter from your self
And find the original you.
Life may seem dark and grey
At times you'll be feeling low
When the storms of life blow over
They'll leave behind a rainbow
Don't let excuses take away
Your need to start afresh
Allow new breeze to flow in
It'll blow away the distress.
Most of us, if truth be told, do not know who we really are? We live in our own egotistical worlds, listening to our self-beliefs that give us all the wrong ideas about ourselves. Yet, as we age and get older we start feeling that there is something missing in our lives, that we have not really achieved what we wanted to achieve. Frustrations and disenchantments pile up and then we say, it's too late to do anything now. Perhaps if I had done it in my younger days, it would have made a difference. The truth is, it's never too late.
In my talks with people I have found that nearly every one harbours a deep yearning to seek change in their lives. People feel trapped in their jobs, however well-paying and lofty they may be. There is a sense of burnout and they don't feel happy anymore. In fact they feel demotivated and caught in a rut from which there is no escape, the common excuse being that they have left it too late to bring about the changes they crave for. However, the truth is that it's never too late to change your life and be who you want to be. If the desire is strong enough, if the determination is there then there are no hurdles that we cannot surmount.
When we assume that we are old we are only limiting ourselves and curtailing our dreams. Remember age is just a number, a measurement of the years we have spent on this earth. It does not have to be a barometer by which we appraise and restrict our lives. Why should age define who we are? It is not as if we are going to die tomorrow?
Do you know that Ray Kroc started McDonalds at 52? He was bored being a salesman who sold milkshake machines. Soichiro Honda was 42 years old when he formed the Honda Motor Company. Anna Mary Moses, one of the greatest artists to come out of the USA, started painting when she was 70 years old. Closer home Swami Prabhupada - the founder of ISKCON, was 69 years old when he started the International Society for Krishna Consciousness. They all followed their dreams and were unafraid to take the plunge. Now these are celebrities and we all know their names. I have seen many people who after trained counselling have effected positive change in their lives and are delighted that they cast aside their apprehensions and decided to go ahead.
All you have to do is first know who you are and what you want to be. Then shed all the layers that are limiting you, that are restricting you and that are not reflecting who you really are. The time to act is now. Take a leap of faith. We at the School of Unlearning will help you explore practical ways of making the changes that will allow you to bring the sunshine back into your lives. Remember, your life is precious and it is the only one you have...you deserve to lead the life that you dream of and want.
