Corona - From Bane to Boon

The Corona scourge has come upon us like a thief in the night - catching us unawares. A media onslaught has been very clear about its negative implications and the havoc it could cause if it is allowed to spread. Of all the precautions and safety measures that are recommended, one that stands out is the need for self-isolation or quarantine and to not go out of your houses unless it is absolutely necessary. We all wish we had more time to spend with our families. Practically all of us spend more time working than with our families. Time is something we all wish we had more of and often feel guilty for not being able to do so… well here is an enforced opportunity... so let’s make it count.
Who knows that there is a huge lesson for all of us hidden in this scourge and it will only reveal itself in the due course of time. Maybe Nature has been trying to talk to us for a long time but in our hectic and frenetic lives we did not have time to listen to it… forcing it to make us stop and pay heed, because Nature must have felt that time was running out. Maybe the virus has come to rejoin and reconnect us with our earth, with our surroundings, with our people and above all with ourselves as well. Maybe nature decided to reduce carbon levels of airplanes, most of which are grounded now, so that she could fill some fresh oxygen in her impaired lungs. Maybe if there are locks on shopping mall doors, cinema houses and restaurants the locks on our hearts will snap open on their own. Perhaps the books lying unopened on shelves will be in the hands of the children and they will get a chance to meet Hansel and Gretel and see what happened when Jack went up the beanstalk. Since outdoor games are taking a break the Ludo dices will roll again and the carrom striker bounce back at right angles on a board stored for years behind the bed… that home food is more wholesome and healthy than the online junk that we have been eating to satisfy our taste buds.
I strongly feel that this virus has come to say something to us and make us do something… there is something hidden that will soon reveal itself… for whatever reason, it could be helplessness, fear, vulnerability, curiosity, realization we are going to come face to face with it… the Virus is telling us that you are not the master and that it is time we began to cherish, value and respect the wonderful earth that God has given us… or ignore this message at our own risk and peril.
Most of us are confounded by the ways of God and often find them illogical. Many feel angry at God for sending this scourge this way. But we must realize that God is fully in control of our lives and that he will protect us, all we have to do is ask. He gives generously when we ask. God can never be the author of evil; he is always the provider of good things. Perhaps he sent us this to make us realize that we had forgotten many good things and habits in our obsession with comfort and convenience. You will agree that we have suddenly realized that personal hygiene is very important and that we should not eat junk food, that sunshine is an important element that we must inculcate in our daily lifestyles.
Just like every single leaf falls from the tree only when God decrees that it should fall, so too every detail in our lives exists because God put it there for a reason. God has a higher plan for us, something that is beyond our comprehension… have faith in Him, have trust in him… we may not like what has been suddenly thrust upon us, but believe you me, that he is never wrong and this too will pass.
